Developer: Nadeo Genre: Racing Released On: 16th April 2008
TrackMania Nations Forever is one of the online racing titles developed by Nadeo. Game attracts a wide range of players as it provides a fast paced game-play, and a lot of exciting and unique tracks. The elements in the game look attractive, especially the toy like cars which bump off when hit on the side rails and fumble when they jump from heights. The game features 65 tracks in which the player needs to complete them in specific times to earn either of the three medals, Gold, Silver or Bronze. The player won't find it difficult to grab a bronze medal but will have to struggle to gain a gold. The ultimate objective of the races is to fetch the best possible time in the track.
The graphics look good, considering its year of release (2008) and moreover it's an online racer; creating a heavily textured and modeled online game isn't a good idea. The tracks and the other elements like buildings and decorations also look quite good. The primary cars which the game provides are visually good and the tracks look great too.Along with that, the player has an option to customize their cars with either the nation-themed colours and flag (which are preset) or they can be painted according to the palyers' like.
When the game is played for the first time, the player might get a feeling like 'what kind of a stupid race is this'. But when three or four tracks have been completed, his/her opinion is gonna go the other way. Where the actual fun lies is in the multi-player mode of the game. You'll get sucked into the races with your friends or online players. Actually, the player will automatically develop an intension to beat others' finish times at least a millisecond ahead. LOL. Another super feature of TM Nations Forever is that about 255 players can enjoy racing simultaneously in the multi-player mode.
One of the good things about the game is that you can restart the game in just a single key stroke and join the fun in the next second. Although you'll find the collisions on the walls and bumping from heights irritating, it's actually fun. White and Green tracks won't give the player much of a problem but the tracks in the Blue and Red difficulties are ought to give you some real challenge and in black you'll need to be at your best to beat the times.
Another funfilled highlight of the game is the inbuilt track editor, which gives the player the ability to create tracks out of their choice. The editor provides two modes, simple and advanced. Simple mode as it's name says gives basic elements to be manipulated and advanced mode enables us to create quite complex tracks as it presents sets of different elements.
Since the game has a much simple game-play, the sound effects are simple too. And in my opinion the sound effects and the in-game music doesn't create much distraction to gamers who have experienced a fair number of racing games.
TrackMania Nations Forever is one of those games in which the player can enjoy playing multi-player races in an attractive environment and graphical elements with quite less system requirements. Best thing about the game is that it's available for free to any person who wants to join the fun. Being an online game, the game provides a fun filled experience to the players in which the players will get sucked in. In my view, if the game is to be rated in a scale of 10, I'l give it an 8.
